Stonehouse Cottages in Ullapool was a self-build project by ambitious clients which brought together local crafts people and artisans utilising traditional building techniques with modern design and environmental considerations.

 

Situated on a steep overgrown site overlooking the ferry port village of Ullapool these houses cling to the hillside; one up amongst the trees, Treetop Cottage, and the other on a rocky edge, Curved Stone Cottage.

 

This site was particularly challenging due to its steep incline and overgrown vegetation meaning a number of obstacles had to be overcome. Site access was difficult and resulted in there being no vehicle or accessible access.
